What Have I Been Up To?

It's been 4 months since I posted anything here, so I can't complain that no one reads my blog; I haven't given you (whoever you are) something to read! Well, I gathered a collection of internet stories to let you know what I've been up to since December. Enjoy!

1. My "Beautiful Homes" were given an "A-" rating by the BBB
2. Rocked the collegiate squash tourney
3. Shot some amazing wedding video in Cabo
4. Was noted for my former world flyfishing championship, but unfortunately got in trouble doing some sketchy banking in Europe

As you can see, it was in fact a busy 4 months though I didn't get anything on the blog. Hopefully that will change going forward.

The Most Important Meal of the Day?

I've always really enjoyed food; whether it's home-cooking, an all-you-can-eat buffet, Easter ham, hotdogs on the campfire, a carrot picked right from the garden or my favorite Italian restaurant, it's not uncommon for the highlight of my day to have something to do with what I ate. For some people, eating is merely a necessity; a task they hope to get through with as little effort or time spent as possible. Not me; I enjoy the process. And when it comes to one meal, there's no greater delight for me than breakfast.

I love starting the day with a delicious bowl of my wife's home-made granola topped with fresh fruit, or a perfectly fried egg on a golden toasted bagel with cheddar cheese and grilled ham, or the special weekend treat when I have the time to make up a hearty omelette with pancakes or french toast; it makes my mouth water just thinking about it! Add on top of that breakfast's distinguished title of "Most Important Meal of the Day," and you have yourself a winner!

That's why when a friend told me about he and his wife's conviction about no Bible, no breakfast, I was challenged. Meaning, if they didn't start the day by delving into the Bible together, then they wouldn't eat breakfast either. The design being, when they felt their hunger for food rising up at 9 or 10am, they would be reminded that they do not live on bread alone but on the very Word of God, and that starving themselves of that nourishment would result in much greater malnutrition than skipping breakfast.

I wondered, how many mornings have I made sure that I had time to enjoy a hearty breakfast while putting off opening the Bible and spending time with the Lord? More than I care to remember I'm sure. So I've had to ask myself the question, why wouldn't I treat feasting on the Word everyday as infinitely more essential than a bowl of cereal? Why don't I see depriving myself of God's Word as infinitely more devastating than depriving myself of a meal?

The answer is, we don't see the harmful effects from skipping time with the Lord as quickly as skipping a meal. Our stomachs are whiny and used to getting what they want, so we're more attuned to their appetites. If we were truly feasting on the Word of God daily, our souls would cry out for more when we skip a meal from His Word. Therefore, we need to pray that God would submit our appetites to Him, so that we may be aware of our deepest hunger and need, namely, the Bread of Life which came down from heaven. Jesus Christ.
